Final due dates for work
Hi everyone,

There have been some questions regarding final due dates for the assignments. I did change the due date on Module 4 to give everyone a chance to finish it up because I posted it late. A few of you have requested extensions, so to be fair, I am extending the final due date for EVERYTHING to June 20, 2007.  You may continue on Module 4, but the others are finished. I will still accept tests, papers, and all artifacts until June 20, 2007 at midnight.  I hope that helps.

I am busy as well so I know what you are going through.

Blessings,
Becky

Final due dates for work
Module 4 Discussion Board
Hi everyone,

I have extended the date for Module 4 to June 17, next Sunday.  I just put up the new module.  Remember the criteria for grading on the discussion board are 1) content-concise and clear summaries in your own words, 2) depth of analysis, 3) frequency of posting and interaction, and 4) use of standard written English.  This last one was not written into the syllabus under the assignment but is included in the syllabus under Professional Expectations and we discussed it the last day of class. Written communications should be generally free from error so that the reader is not distracted from your message.

One more reminder that if you use ANY phrases from an author (like your textbook or articles) they must be cited and be enclosed in quotation marks.  If you are summarizing and actually copy sections from the text (like bulleted lists) please cite the page numbers and put the quote in quotation marks.

Planning and Diagnostic Items
In that section of the artifacts collection, I am mainly thinking about informal assessments of things that are not strictly academic.  You might give an informal reading interest survey, a questionnaire about family, a social skills checklist, or ask kids to draw a picture or do a baseline writing task.  These are all to diagnose or get a flavor for who you children are in the big picture. This is the kind of thing I am looking for.
Test Writing Project
I have been getting the tests, thanks!  I hope to have some feedback soon.  This is a busy week on my UTC schedule, so don't worry if it takes a bit to hear from me this week.

Module 3 Discussion Board
Hi all,

I have been working on the papers and tests and didn't get the discussion board up for Module 3.  You may go ahead and post now and take a few more days.  These will be due on June 7.

HotSpot Paper UPDATE
Hi all! I have received 5 papers and am making comments on the last several. Some of you have not been able to email them to your group for feedback. So:

You only need to post your own paper in the "Submit your file" section.  You may certainly read others' papers, but you do NOT need to write a written response.  It is taking time to give feedback so we will extend the FINAL DRAFT due date to JUNE 11, 2007.

Hot Spot Paper research
How is the research going for your papers?  You can access the databases by going to www.covenant.edu and clicking on the Library and then selecting Electronic Resources.  At the top of that screen that comes up is a place (small) to click on something like OffCampus Access.  It will ask you for your username and password like normal.  Then you can click on the database you want to search. My favorite I Research Library at ProQuest (close).  Type in your topic and click the boxes for "full text" and "peer-reviewed".  You should get a list of journal articles.  You can then click on the icon for "Full Text html" or Full Text pdf", depending on what is available.
Hot Spot Paper
I have changed the paper assignment to TWO due dates.  The original due date, May 29, is now the due date for your FIRST draft.  Then I can respond and you will have an additional week to make revisions and submit your FINAL draft on June 4. Hope that helps!
Class today
It was great to see you all again today and hear your comments regarding tests and grading.  I enjoyed seeing the various report cards as well.  I hope the directions are clear, but please do email or post a question that you may think we would all like the answer to under "Teacher's Lounge" in the Message Board section.
Posting your reading responses
Remember to post your responses to the readings for Chapter 1 and 7 by May 19.  There are questions on the module section online and you may also respond to the Essential Questions. Show me you can apply the concepts.
What to bring on Saturday, May 19: Please bring a 4th or 5th grade science or social studies textbook chapter and the GPS for that grade/content area. Also, bring an example of report cards that you are familiar with.
